Create and manage announcement channels in Communities

Create an Announcement Channel when admins and owners need a specialized read-only channel, then choose whether it is Public or Private and save the change.

Understand Announcement Channels

An Announcement Channel is a specialized read-only channel: admins and owners can post and pin announcements, while regular members have read-only access.

Announcement Channels can be Public or Private, and you can create multiple Announcement Channels without a stated numeric limit.

Create or convert an Announcement Channel

Use Channel Management Settings to create a new Announcement Channel or change an existing channel into one.

1. Open Channel Management Settings.

2. Select Create Channel for a new channel, or open an existing channel.

3. Enable Enable as Announcement Channel.

4. Choose Public or Private.

5. Select Save changes.

The channel now functions as an Announcement Channel with the visibility you selected.

Post and pin announcements

Admins and owners can publish announcements and pin them so they remain at the top for all members.

1. Open the Announcement Channel.

2. Create and publish the announcement.

3. Pin the announcement when it should remain at the top for all members.

Regular members can read announcements but cannot post in the channel.

Revert an Announcement Channel to a regular channel

Turn off the announcement-channel setting when members should no longer have read-only access to the channel.

1. Open the channel in Channel Management Settings.

2. Turn off Enable as Announcement Channel.

3. Select Save changes.

The channel reverts to a regular channel.

Community notifications use different delivery methods for level-ups and course unlocks.

Push alerts depend on each member’s notification settings.
