Customize a dashboard widget
Customize a dashboard widget by opening it from edit mode, configuring its data, chart type, and conditions, and saving both the widget and the dashboard layout. General widgets cannot be edited.
Before you start
You need edit access to the dashboard to customize its widgets. General widgets cannot be edited; customization applies to the custom widgets you add to a dashboard you create (see Create a custom dashboard).
Open a widget for editing
Open a widget for editing from the dashboard's edit mode: click EDIT, open the widget's three-dot menu, and select Edit.
Open the dashboard that contains the widget.
Click EDIT.
Open the widget's three-dot menu in its top-right corner.
Select Edit. The editing menu opens on the right-hand side.
Configure the widget
Open Settings, then Configure, in the editing menu to control what the widget shows: its title, data points, grouping, sorting, limits, and date range.
Title — rename the widget.
Metrics — change the data points shown. Multiple metrics can be added for Line, Bar, and Horizontal bar charts.
Group — define grouping options, such as for donut charts.
View By — choose a secondary dimension for line or bar charts.
Breakdown — set the time-period frequency.
Date Property — choose the date type, such as Created Date or Updated Date.
Date Range Override — override the dashboard's global date range for this widget.
Order — sort ascending or descending.
Limit — set the maximum number of displayed results.
Comparison Date Property — add a comparison percentage.
Advanced settings are optional.
Change the chart type
Change the chart type to display the widget's data as a bar, line, pie, or other chart.
Open the widget for editing.
Open Settings, then Configure.
Choose Chart Type. The default chart type is selected under the ALL filter.
Review the live preview.
Continue to Conditions or Save.
You can also click the widget's chart icon to change its chart type directly.
Choose which trend direction is positive
In Dashboards and Custom Reports, a widget shows a trend badge with an up or down arrow and percentage change when you set a Comparison Date Range. Choose which direction reads as positive so the badge is colored correctly for your metric.
Open the widget for editing.
Open Settings, then Configure.
In Advanced settings, set Date range override and Comparison date range for the widget.
Choose Increase is positive when a higher value is the desired outcome, or Decrease is positive when a lower value is — for example, for unsubscribe rate, bounce rate, churn, or cost per lead.
Save the widget.
The trend badge applies to Number, Line, and Bar charts. Increase is positive is the default; existing widgets keep it until you change the setting.
Set conditions
Add Conditions to filter which data a widget shows. Widget-level Conditions are separate from dashboard Quick Filters, which filter all compatible widgets from the Quick Filter bar — see Use quick filters on dashboards.
Open the widget for editing.
Open Conditions.
Select Add Filter.
Choose a filter, an operator, and parameters.
Add more filters as needed: +AND adds a filter within the same group, Add Condition adds a condition, and +Add Filter starts a new filter group.
Select Save.
Filters within one group combine with AND logic; each new filter group combines with OR logic. Separate groups can use the same field twice — for example, Source = google in one group and Source = facebook in another.
Visitor Data widgets support only one filter group. Linked fields such as Pipeline and Stage can display inline warnings when the selected combination conflicts.
A widget cannot be saved when no data matches its filter. Adjust or remove the filter to save the widget.
Save your changes
Save the widget first, then save the dashboard layout. The widget's settings apply when you select Save; the layout, including the widget's size and position, is finalized when you select Save Changes, just as when you edit a dashboard (see Edit a dashboard).
Select Save in the widget's editing menu.
Adjust the widget's size or position on the dashboard.
Select Save Changes to save the dashboard layout.
