The error can occur when a sub-account product, often a SaaS plan, is created locally instead of through the agency's SaaS structure. Create the product in the agency's SaaS Configurator, return to Payments > Products in the sub-account, and use Import from Stripe.
Create and sell products
Create a product from Payments > Products > + Create Product: configure its information, tax options, pricing, and variants, then make it available on a website, funnel, or store and add it to an order form so customers can buy it. This article walks through the full setup, from product record to checkout.
Create a product
Build the product record in Payments > Products before you add it to any sales channel. The product record holds the title, description, media, pricing, variants, tax options, and SEO details that every checkout surface uses.
Go to Payments > Products and click + Create Product.
Under Product Information, enter a Title (required) and a Description. The description supports rich text: bold, italics, links, bullet points, and font customization.
Add media under Media — an image or video file, recommended size 1024×1024 and a maximum of 10 MB.
Turn on Include in Online Store to make the product visible in your storefront, check Enable Product Label to add a custom label, and assign the product to a Product Collection if you use collections.
Under Tax options, set the Product Tax Code, choose Include tax in prices (Follow Global settings, Tax Inclusive, or Tax Exclusive), and check Attach Tax Rates to attach manually created rates.
Under Pricing, give the price a Pricing Name, set the Type to One time or Recurring, enter the Amount, and optionally add a Compare-at Price, Currency, Track Inventory, Additional Options (purchase limits or metadata fields), and a Price Description.
Scroll to Search Engine Listing (optional but recommended) and enter an SEO Title, SEO Description, and Handle, which defines the product URL slug such as
/product/my-course-name.Click Save. The product is now available to add to checkouts, invoices, forms, and your store.
When you add a product to your ecommerce online store, only one-time products are included; recurring products are sold through funnels and order forms.
One-time vs recurring pricing
Choose the Type under Pricing when you create the product: One time charges the customer once, while Recurring supports billing cycles, trial periods, and setup fees.
Recurring products added to invoices require a billing frequency and a start date, and a recurring invoice requires the correct Payment Schedule. One-time products do not require a schedule.
Add variants
Add variants when the product comes in sizes, colors, or other options, and each variant can carry its own price, compare-at price, and available quantity.
In the product editor, scroll to the Variants section.
Enter an Option name, such as Size or Color.
Enter the Option values and click Done.
Set a price, compare-at price, and available quantity per variant, and enable Track Inventory to manage variant stock.
After you save, quantities are managed per variant from Payments > Products > Inventory; see Set inventory for your products and Manage product inventory.
Set up a trial
Offer a trial by switching a recurring product's pricing to a trial period measured in days — entering 30 means a 30-day trial even when billing is monthly or annually.
Go to Payments > Products and create a product or open an existing one.
Under Pricing, set the Type to Recurring.
Enter the Amount, and optionally a Compare-at price.
Select the billing period.
Enter the Trial period in days — for example, 5 for a 5-day trial.
Optionally configure the number of payments and a setup fee.
Click Save.
Add the product to an order form, invoice, or checkout page so customers can sign up.
Make a product available
Sell products from a website, funnel, or store. For funnels, add the product from the funnel's Products tab; for a store, enable the product's display toggle from Payments > Products and place the store in a website (stores work only inside websites, not funnels).
Open the funnel, select it, and open the Products tab.
Click Add Product, configure the details, and click Save.
Digital products require digital files uploaded to the product or its variants. Without files, download options do not appear after checkout, and the Customer Access Center displays No downloads available yet. If files are uploaded after purchase, download access becomes available automatically; if files are removed, access disappears immediately.
Add an order form
Add the order form to the funnel page that will contain the checkout form so customers can purchase the product.
Navigate to the Site Editor.
Select the funnel page that will contain the checkout form.
If the page does not exist, click Add New Step, complete the details, and click Create Funnel Step.
Add a full-width section to the page.
Add a one-column row inside the section.
Add a one- or two-step order form inside the row.
Customize the order form, then click Save and Publish.
Ensure the product is added to the same page as the order form.
To sell products through a form instead, see Add products to a form. To let customers apply a discount code at checkout, see Enable coupons on a payment form.
Physical vs digital products
Physical products include shipping fields during checkout; digital products skip those fields. To change a product from Physical to Digital: open Payments > Products, click the product name, select the price under Prices, scroll to Shipping and Delivery, change the dropdown to Digital, and click Save.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I get a "Category ID is required" error when creating a product?
Can I change the currency of an existing product?
No. An existing product's currency cannot be changed; create a new product or add a new pricing entry with the desired currency.
Why doesn't my product appear in the invoice product list?
Invoices filter products by price type: standard one-time invoices show One-time products, and recurring invoices show Recurring products.
Why does my duplicated product appear grayed out?
A duplicated product can be grayed out because of a Draft rather than Published status, a one-time/recurring billing mismatch, missing or inactive pricing, a currency mismatch, or large catalogs requiring manual review.
Why can't I import a product from Stripe?
Only recurring/subscription products can be imported from Stripe. One-time products must be created in the product editor and sync to Stripe automatically. A Stripe product may not appear for import if it already exists or has not finished syncing — synchronization can take up to 24 hours. Deleting the JourneyCARE product does not delete it from Stripe before re-importing.
