Create and manage coupons

Coupons apply a percentage or fixed-amount discount to products at checkout. Create them from Payments > Coupons with a name, code, and discount type, add optional validity dates and usage restrictions, and customers can enter the code on any supported checkout.

Before you start

You need access to Payments > Coupons and at least one product to discount. For product setup, see Create and sell products. A coupon must exist before you enable coupon entry on a checkout.

Create a coupon

Open Payments > Coupons and click Create Coupon to open the creation screen.

1. Enter a Coupon Name for internal reference and a Coupon Code for customers to enter at checkout. Codes are alphanumeric with no spaces or special characters, are case-insensitive, and are converted to uppercase automatically. Each code must be unique, and Generate creates one for you automatically.

2. Choose the coupon type. A Percentage-Based Coupon applies a percentage discount to the total value; a Fixed Amount Coupon applies a fixed discount regardless of order size.

3. The coupon's currency is set automatically to your organization's currency and cannot be changed.

4. Set validity dates (optional): enter a Start Date & Time and an End Date & Time. Without an end date, the coupon stays active indefinitely.

5. Configure usage restrictions: limit total redemptions, limit the coupon to selected products, limit it to one use per customer, or restrict it to selected prices or variants. For the product, price, and variant selection options, see Target coupons by product, price, and variant.

6. If the coupon applies to a subscription product, choose how long the discount lasts: Once, Forever, or Multiple Months. See Apply coupons to subscription payments.

7. Click Create. The coupon becomes active immediately, or scheduled to start on the validity date you set.

Where coupons can be used

Coupons work at checkout on Funnels, Forms, Ecommerce / Store, Payment Links, Calendars, and Websites. They are not supported on Estimates and Invoices.

How coupons behave at checkout

The coupon field appears at checkout only when a valid coupon exists for the cart; when none applies, the field is hidden automatically. Many checkout builders also have a setting that enables or disables coupon visibility and application.

• Discounts appear in the checkout summary and in order details.

• With multiple products in the cart, the discount is distributed proportionally across the applicable products.

• A coupon can reduce the cart value to $0. Card details may still be required for verification on a $0 transaction, depending on the builder's setting; if the builder has no $0-transaction setting, card details are always required.

• Coupons do not apply to one-click upsells in Funnels.

• 100% discounts are supported by most payment providers except PayPal.

• A coupon can apply to one-time and subscription products in the same order; the subscription part follows the coupon's configured duration.

• Coupons apply to setup fees on subscription products.

Edit, delete, and track coupons

Open a coupon from Payments > Coupons to edit its name, usage limits, or validity dates, or to delete it. Changes affect future uses only; orders that already used the coupon stay unchanged. Usage history and redemption counts are available on the coupon.

PayPal limitations

Two coupon behaviors do not work with PayPal for subscription payments:

• A subscription coupon set to a defined number of months instead of Forever does not apply as configured — PayPal charges for the entire subscription duration.

• A coupon that reduces the order to $0, including a 100% coupon, does not work with PayPal when subscription products are part of the checkout.
