No. The configured duration determines how long the discount applies; the billing frequency (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually) only affects how many payments fall inside that window.
Apply coupons to subscription payments
Check Also apply to recurring/future payments based on a duration or forever, if applicable. in a coupon's discount settings to choose how long the discount applies to a subscription's recurring payments: Once, Forever, or Multiple Months for a set number of months. You set it when creating a coupon at Payments > Coupons or when editing an existing coupon.
Set the coupon duration
The duration option lives in the discount settings on the Create Coupon screen and on the Edit Coupon screen for existing coupons.
Open Payments > Coupons and click Create Coupon for a new coupon, or Edit Coupon on an existing coupon. For the full coupon setup, see Enable coupons on a payment form.
In the discount settings, check Also apply to recurring/future payments based on a duration or forever, if applicable.
Choose Forever to apply the discount to all recurring payments, or choose Multiple Months to apply it for a set number of months and enter the duration in the field that appears.
Leave the checkbox unchecked to keep the default behavior: the discount applies Once, which on a subscription means the first payment only.
The duration setting only matters for subscription products. A one-time product is charged once, so the discount applies once no matter which option you choose.
How the duration applies
On a subscription product, the three options control how many recurring payments receive the discount. The billing frequency does not determine the number of discounted payments — the configured duration does.
Once — the discount applies to the first payment only.
Forever — the discount applies to all recurring payments.
Multiple Months — the discount applies for the configured number of months and then stops.
The selected duration is reflected in Coupon Details and management views. On the Subscription Details Page and Order Details Page, it shows up as text such as "10% off for first 4 months", "$10 off for 1st month", "10% off for all payments", or "$10 off on 1st payment". Examples by billing cycle
How many payments get the discount depends on the billing cycle and the duration you set.
Monthly subscription lasting 10 months with Multiple Months = 4: the coupon applies for four months beginning when the coupon is applied, whether the subscription starts active or begins in trialing status.
Annual subscription lasting three years: Forever applies for the life of the subscription, while Multiple Months = 4 does not apply to the annual renewal after 12 months because the discount only applies to payments occurring within the next four months.
Weekly subscription lasting six months with Multiple Months = 2: the coupon applies weekly for approximately eight payments during the two-month period.
