How auto-save works in workflows
Auto Save continuously saves your workflow canvas edits to the current draft, so your work is never lost — but it does not make changes live. Publishing remains the deliberate step that puts a workflow into effect.
What Auto Save does
With Auto Save enabled, you do not need a manual Save button for canvas edits. Every change you make is saved to the workflow's draft as you make it, and Auto Save resumes saving automatically after a connectivity interruption. Auto Save also works in the AI Workflow Builder.
Auto Save never publishes. A workflow only runs for contacts after you click Publish.
What Auto Save captures
Auto Save records these changes:
Adding or deleting actions and triggers
Changes in the workflow Settings tab
Edits to the workflow name
Changing the workflow status between Draft and Publish
Changes made inside an individual action or trigger configuration modal are not saved until you click Save, Apply, or the equivalent control to commit them to the canvas. For example, changing the time in a Wait step is not captured until you save that modal. The workflow runs only after you Publish it.
Enable Auto Save
Turn Auto Save on from either the workflow builder or global settings.
From the workflow builder:
Open Automations > Workflows and open a workflow.
If the onboarding pop-up appears, select Enable Auto Save Now.
From global settings:
Open Automations > Global Workflow Settings.
Turn the Auto Save toggle On.
Version history
Each editing session creates entries in Version History. Save Version creates a named checkpoint you can return to later.
Multi-editor caution
When several people or tabs edit the same workflow, the most recent auto-save becomes the current draft. Keep a single editor for critical changes, and refresh the workflow after returning to an idle session so you do not overwrite newer edits.
