Add credit card processing fees to event registration
Pass your card processing costs on to registrants by turning on Processing Charges under Payments > Settings > Miscellaneous Charges. The setting is account-wide by payment source, not per event: event registrations taken through a form are covered when Forms is selected as the source, and there is no event-specific fee setting. For full configuration details, see Add processing charges or additional fees to payments.
Set up the processing charge
Configure the charge once in Payments settings, and it applies automatically at checkout on every payment source you select.
Open Payments > Settings.
Scroll to Miscellaneous Charges.
Enable the Processing Charges toggle.
Enter a custom label for the fee, such as "Processing Charge". This label appears on the registrant's checkout summary and receipt.
Enter the fee percentage.
Select the checkboxes for the payment sources the fee should apply to.
Click Save. The charge is applied automatically at checkout on the selected sources.
Your organization is responsible for complying with applicable surcharging laws, since surcharging may be prohibited in certain jurisdictions.
Which payment sources the fee covers
Select any combination of these sources: Invoices & Estimates, Funnels, E-commerce Stores, Payment Links, Forms, and Surveys. Event registrations taken through a form are covered when Forms is selected.
The fee applies by payment source, not per event. Every form payment carries the same fee; there is no event-specific fee setting.
The same fee applies across all selected sources. Channel-specific fees are not available.
PayPal and Custom Payment Providers are not supported, except for invoices, where the charge works with all payment providers.
Invoice payments made through the mobile app are not supported.
If you register event attendees through the form-based flow described in Event Registrations with Forms, select Forms as the source.
How the fee appears at checkout
The processing charge shows as a distinct line item during checkout and is included in the registrant's final total. It is calculated as a percentage of Subtotal - Discounts + Taxes; for e-commerce checkouts, shipping is added to the formula as well.
Processing charges are excluded from e-commerce upsell products.
The Transactions CSV and Orders CSV exports include processing-charge details, including the fee label and amount.
Test the fee before your event opens
Submit a test registration on your event form and confirm the fee line item appears in the checkout total. Use Test Mode so the test payment does not charge a live card; see Testing Payment Forms for the full steps.
