Categorize courses with course tags
Assign course tags — Language, Difficulty, and Topic — from a course's Settings so learners can filter the course library by those criteria. The tags you choose appear on the course's card in the learner library, where learners can use them as filters.
What course tags are
Course tags are predefined labels that describe a course's language, difficulty level, and topic. Each course has three tag types: Language (the language the course is delivered in), Difficulty (the intended skill or experience level), and Topic (the primary subject). They exist for categorization and discovery only — course creation, editing, offers, and access are managed through their separate Memberships features.
Course tags are not the same as contact tags, and tagging a course in a Communities post or comment is a separate feature covered in the Communities overview. They also do not replace course offers or access settings: access is granted separately through offers and workflows that grant course access.
Add tags to a course
Open the course you want to categorize and set all three tag values from its Settings so the tags appear in the learner library.
Go to Portal and Groups > Courses > Products and open the course you want to categorize.
Select Settings from the course menu.
Scroll to the Course tags area.
Select a value from the Language dropdown.
Select a value from the Difficulty dropdown.
Select a value from the Topic dropdown.
Review the values, then click Save.
Once saved, the tags sync to the learner library: they appear on the course's card and can be used as filters. For the full setup, see Build a course.
How learners filter the library
Learners filter the course library in the member portal by language, difficulty, or topic. The filters work in both All Courses and My Courses.
Open the course library in the member portal.
Choose All Courses or My Courses.
Select one of the available filters: Language, Difficulty, or Topic.
Choose the value to use.
Review the filtered results.
Select Clear all filters to remove the active filters.
