Use partial payments on invoices
Turn on partial payments so customers can pay any amount equal to or greater than a minimum percentage of the invoice total that you set. Partial payments work on both one-time and recurring invoices.
Prerequisite: connect a payment gateway
Partial payments require a connected payment gateway — Stripe, Authorize.net, or NMI. For the Authorize.Net connection steps, see Connect Authorize.Net for payment processing.
Check which payment providers and methods are available for invoices in Supported payment providers and methods by product area.
Enable partial payments
Enable the Partial Payments toggle from the invoice settings, then enter the minimum percentage customers can pay.
Go to Payments > Invoices > Invoices Settings.
Open Payment Settings.
Enable the Partial Payments toggle.
Enter the minimum percentage.
Click Save.
How the minimum percentage works
The percentage is calculated from the total invoice amount. Customers can pay any amount equal to or greater than that minimum.
Partial payments on recurring invoices
On recurring invoices, partial payments apply when autopayment is disabled. When autopayment is enabled and the customer has a card, the first invoice can offer partial payment, but subsequent invoices auto-draft the full amount.
Partial payments are separate from payment plans, which use predefined installments — see Set up payment plans on invoices for that feature.
