Yes. Organizations redeem gift cards while collecting payments on behalf of customers, using the same redemption logic available in customer-facing checkouts.
How to redeem gift cards for offline or off-session payments
Redeem a customer's gift card while you collect the payment yourself — recording a payment on an order or invoice, charging a customer, or creating a subscription — without the customer completing a checkout. Open one of the supported payment flows below, enter the customer's gift card code, and click Apply; the gift card balance pays down or fully covers the amount due.
What you need
Before you can redeem a gift card, the card itself has to exist and be redeemable.
At least one Gift Card Product must exist. See Getting started with Gift Cards for how to set one up.
At least one gift card must have been sold or sent. See How to sell gift cards and How to send gift cards.
The gift card must be active, not expired, and have an available balance.
How to redeem a gift card
The redemption process is the same in every supported payment flow.
Open one of the supported payment flows listed below.
Locate the Gift Card field, enter the customer's gift card code, and click Apply. The system validates the gift card, displays the available balance, and shows a validation message for invalid, expired, or zero-balance cards.
Review the payment summary. If the gift card covers the full payment, the entire amount is redeemed and no additional payment method is charged. If it covers only part of the payment, the available balance is applied first and the remaining amount is charged to the customer's saved payment method.
Complete the payment. After it succeeds, the gift card balance updates automatically, Transaction Details display the gift card amount redeemed, and the corresponding Gift Card Order reflects the remaining balance.
Supported payment flows
Gift card redemption is available in these organization-initiated payment experiences.
Record Payment from an Order
Open Payments > Orders > Order Details, then Record Payment > Charge a Card. Enter the customer's gift card code and click Apply before completing the payment.
Record Payment from an Invoice
Open Payments > Invoices > Invoice Details, then Record Payment > Charge a Card. Apply the customer's gift card to reduce or fully cover the payment amount before charging the remaining balance, if required.
Charge Now
Open Contacts > Charge Now to collect a payment directly from the customer's contact record. If the gift card does not cover the full amount, the remaining balance is automatically charged to the customer's saved payment method.
Create Subscription from Contacts
Open Contacts > Create Subscription. Gift cards apply toward the initial subscription payment. If the gift card balance is insufficient, the remaining amount is charged to the customer's saved payment method. A payment method may still be required for future recurring payments.
Create Subscription from Subscription Details
Open Payments > Subscriptions > Subscription Details, then Create Subscription. The redemption experience is identical to creating a subscription from the Contacts page.
Coming soon: gift card redemption will also be available while collecting payments through Calendars and POS, and for future-dated or scheduled subscriptions.
Frequently asked questions
Can I redeem a gift card the same way customers do at checkout?
What happens if the gift card balance is lower than the payment amount?
The available balance is redeemed first, and the remaining amount is automatically charged using the customer's saved payment method, or a new card can be added.
Can I redeem more than one gift card for a payment?
No. One gift card can be applied per payment.
Can I redeem an expired or fully used gift card?
No. Only active gift cards with an available balance can be redeemed.
Will the gift card balance update automatically after payment?
Yes. The remaining balance updates immediately after a successful payment and is reflected on the corresponding Gift Card Order.
Can I use a gift card while creating a subscription?
Yes, toward the initial subscription payment. Later payments — or any pending balance in the initial payment — must come from a saved card on file or a newly added card. A subscription cannot be created with a gift card alone, and future-dated or scheduled subscriptions cannot redeem gift cards yet.
Where can I see how much was redeemed using the gift card?
The Transaction Details page displays the amount redeemed using the gift card along with any remaining amount collected using another payment method.
