Notification sound option in chat widgets
The Notification Sound option plays a sound and shows visual cues, including popups, notification badges, and browser-tab title updates, for visitors whenever a supported message appears in the Chat Widget. It is on by default and affects visitor-facing alerts only, not staff or operator notifications, which you manage separately in user notification settings.
Turn Notification Sound on or off
Configure the setting separately for each Chat Widget through its builder.
Go to Sites > Chat Widgets and open the widget you want to edit.
In the left-side menu, select Chat Window.
Open the Additional Options drop-down.
Toggle Notification Sound on or off.
Click Save in the top right.
If the embed code is already installed on your site, refresh the page to see the change.
Scope and how the setting behaves
Notification Sound is supported in the All-in-One and Live Chat widgets; it isn't stated for other widget types. The toggle controls each widget on its own, so you can keep the sound on for one widget and off for another on the same site.
When the setting is off, messages continue to arrive silently: no sound plays and no visual interruptions appear. Custom sound uploads and volume controls aren't available; the option is a simple on/off toggle. Turning it on or off requires no changes to your embed code.
Messages that can trigger a notification
When Notification Sound is on, a sound can play for the following message types.
Live chat and session flow
Live chat intro message — when a chat starts and after a successful contact-form submission.
Acknowledgement message — when a chat is acknowledged or ended.
Business hours handling
Outside office hours welcome message — when business hours are disabled, when the contact form is shown, and when a message arrives during an active session.
System and greeting messages
Subheading message — the initial greeting for new visitors, when no previous chats are available, and during inline-mode initialization.
Forms and redirects
Contact details requested message — when the contact form is displayed. See Collect visitor details before live chat starts for how this form works.
Redirect message — after form submission when redirect is enabled.
